What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda, which literally translated means "the science or knowledge of life" is the traditional medical system of India. Its origin dates back an estimated 5-10,000 years, and it is widely considered the oldest form of holistic health care in the world.
Ayurveda is based on the premise that disease is the natural result of an imbalance in our body. Ayurveda's approach to healing becomes obvious: to re-establish balance in our body. Once re-established, the need for the body to communicate disharmony diminishes, symptoms dissipate, and healing is said to have occurred. It uses a multitude of healing modalities including herbal medicine, diet, lifestyle recommendations, colors, aromas, sound, meditation, and yoga. Ayurveda is more than treating an illness. It provides holistic solutions to health problems by using natural processes and methods to address disease at its root, thereby reducing symptoms in the long term. It customizes the treatment as per individual person’s unique physical, mental and emotional constitution to prevent disease and promote wellness. Few healthcare insurers cover the treatment under Alternative Medicine or allow use of FSA/HSA health spending.
